Mets place El Duque, Valentin on DL

The New York Mets placed righthanded pitcher Orlando Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 25th, with bursitis in his right shoulder. The Mets also placed infielder Jose Valentin on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to April 29th, with a partial tear of the ACL ligament of his right knee. The Mets recalled righthanded pitcher Chan Ho Park and purchased the contract of infielder Ruben Gotay from New Orleans (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League. Park will wear #61 and will start tonight vs. Florida and Gotay will wear #6 and will be available for tonight's contest.

Park, 33, went 3-1 with a 7.29 ERA in four starts with the Zephyrs. In 21.0 innings, he allowed 26 hits, 17 runs, earned, with five walks and 20 strikeouts.

In addition, Chan Ho made seven spring training outings with the Mets. The 6-2, 210-pounder was 2-1 with a 5.89 ERA. In 18.1 innings, he surrendered 17 hits, 15 runs, 12 earned, with nine walks and 23 strikeouts.

Last season, Park was 7-7 with a 4.81 ERA in 24 games, 21 starts for the San Diego Padres. In 136.2 innings, he yielded 146 hits, 81 runs, 73 earned, with 44 walks and 96 strikeouts. He also pitched 2.0 shutout innings in Game One of the Divisional Series vs. St. Louis.

Park is 113-87 with a 4.37 ERA in 323 major league games, 274 starts for the Los Angeles Dodgers, Texas Rangers and Padres. In 1,746.0 innings, he's permitted 1,620 hits, 914 runs, 848 earned, with 820 walks and 1,507 strikeouts.

Park was signed by New York as a free agent on Feb. 9th. He was optioned to New Orleans on March 30th.

Gotay, 24, was hitting .256 (21-82) with 12 runs scored, seven doubles, one triple, two home runs, 13 RBI with 14 walks and 14 strikeouts in 23 games for the Zephyrs.

Ruben batted .228 (9-40) with five runs scored, four doubles, one triple, one home run and one RBI in 28 spring training games with New York.

The switch-hitter has batted .242 (105-434) with 49 runs, 21 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 45 RBI, with 31 walks and 87 strikeouts in 130 major league games with Kansas City (2004-2005).

Gotay was acquired by the Mets from the Royals in exchange for infielder Jeff Keppinger on July 19, 2006.
