Friday, 18 May 2007
Four riveting and diverse films starring one of Hollywood’s most acclaimed performers come to DVD in a very special four-disc set when the Denzel Washington Spotlight Collection arrives in store from Universal Studios Home Entertainment on May 15, 2007. With two Academy Awards and two Golden Globes, Denzel Washington has established himself as one of the most versatile and electrifying actors working today. Washington appears alongside stars such as Jodie Foster (Flightplan), Angelina Jolie (The Good Shepherd) and Clive Owen (Children of Men) in a collection that includes The Bone Collector, The Hurricane, Inside Man and Mo' Better Blues. The specially packaged set is loaded with incredible bonus features that include commentary from directors Norman Jewison (Moonstruck, A Soldier’s Story), Spike Lee (Malcolm X) and Phillip Noyce (Catch a Fire, Clear and Present Danger), as well as deleted scenes and backstage documentaries.

A unique combination of self-assurance, intelligence and sex appeal make Denzel Washington equally at home as a debonair leading man or a hard-driving action hero. Washington has become one of today’s most influential performers and earned the respect of critics and audiences alike.  The DVD is priced at $29.98 SRP.

SYNOPSES

Inside Man
Acclaimed filmmaker Spike Lee directs Academy Award® winners Denzel Washington and Jodie Foster, and Academy Award® nominee Clive Owen in an edge-of-your-seat, action-packed thriller. When a bank robbery becomes a dangerous hostage situation, Detective Keith Frazier (Washington) matches wits with an ingenious bank robber (Owen) and a power broker with a hidden agenda (Foster). In the risky game of cat-and-mouse that unfolds, a single misstep could spell disaster for any one of them. As the situation becomes increasingly tense, Frazier begins to suspect the bank robbers’ outrageous demands are just a distraction to throw the police off the scent of the real crime.  Inside Man includes feature commentary with director Spike Lee, more than 25 minutes of deleted scenes and the behind-the-scenes featurette, The Making of Inside Man.

Mo' Better Blues:
Washington again teams up with Spike Lee for a spirited look at music and love. The film follows Bleek Gilliam, a gifted musician and womanizer during his rise to jazz stardom. Faced with a choice between two women, Bleek must decide if his music leaves room for anyone else in his life. Mo’ Better Blues is an unparalleled celebration and a feast for the senses.

The Hurricane
One-time middleweight boxing contender Rubin “Hurricane” Carter (Denzel Washington) is given a life sentence for three murders he didn’t commit. His autobiography convinces Lesra Martin, a teenager from Brooklyn (played by Vicellous Reon Shannon) of his innocence, and with the help of three Canadian activists (Deborah Kara Unger, John Hannah, Liev Schreiber), Lesra sets in motion the extraordinary events that exonerate Carter after 20 years in prison.  Bonus features include commentary with director Norman Jewison, the featurette The Making of The Hurricane, production notes and the original theatrical trailer.

The Bone Collector
An ingenious serial killer leaves a trail of mysterious clues and onetime top homicide investigator Lincoln Rhyme (Washington) may be the only person who can piece together the murderer’s perverse puzzle and stop his deadly rampage.  A tragic accident left Rhyme a quadriplegic, and he must depend on rookie cop Amelia Donaghy (Angelina Jolie) to be his arms and legs during the investigation.  As Rhyme and Donaghy close in on their suspect, they realize the killer is also zeroing in on them. The Bone Collector includes feature commentary by director Phillip Noyce, production notes and interviews with the cast and filmmakers.
