The Orioles today announced that they have placed CA Ramon Hernandez on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 7, with a groin contusion. To take his place on the roster, they have purchased the contract of CA Alberto Castillo from AAA Norfolk.
Hernandez suffered the injury when hit by a foul tip in the 9th inning of the Orioles' 9-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners on Wednesday. He remained in the game but was later taken to local hospital for examinations. This is Hernandez's second stint on the DL this season. He also missed the first 21 games of the season with a strained left oblique muscle.
Castillo appeared in 8 games for the Orioles while Hernandez was on the disabled list. He batted .174 (4-23) with 3 runs scored before being designated for assignment when Hernandez was activated. Castillo was acquired from Boston on March 27.
