The Orioles today completed their picks in the 2007 First-Year Player Draft, selecting 45 players on the second day of the two-day draft. The Orioles finished with a total of 48 players selected, including four with local connections: Shippensburg University 2B Eric Perlozzo of Cumberland, MD, the son of Orioles manager Sam Perlozzo; McDonogh High School RHP Joseph Yermal of Owings Mills, MD; Towson University OF Preston Pehrson of Arnold, MD and Mount St. Mary's University SS Michael Gioioso of Baltimore.
In all, 24 of the Orioles' 48 selections were pitchers, including 20 right-handers and 4 left-handers. The Orioles also chose 12 outfielders, 2 catchers and 5 shortstops, as well as a first baseman, a second baseman and 3 third basemen. The Orioles selected 40 college players and 8 high school seniors.
