Cabrera named NL Player of the Week
Monday, 11 June 2007
Florida Marlins third baseman Miguel Cabrera, who led the N.L. with a .476 batting average and a 1.048 slugging percentage, has been named Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week for the period of June 4-10, 2007. Bank of America, the Official Bank of Major League Baseball, is the presenting sponsor of the National League and American League Player of the Week Awards, which reflect Bank of America's long-standing tradition of promoting and recognizing higher standards of accomplishment.

The 24-year old third baseman finished the week tied for second in the N.L. with three home runs, eight RBI, 22 total bases, and one triple. He also accumulated a .478 on-base percentage and six runs scored. The right-handed slugger hit a home run in three of Florida's six games and recorded multi-RBI performances in three consecutive games against the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. This marks the second time Cabrera has been named the N.L. Player of the Week this year. He was previously honored for his performance during the opening week of the 2007 season (April 2-8), a week in which this week's American League winner, Alex Rodriguez of the New York Yankees, also shared the honors with Vladimir Guerrero of the Angels.

Other nominees this past week included: Atlanta's Yunel Escobar (.355, 1 HR, 2 RBI); David Wright (.348, 4 HR, 6 RBI) and Jorge Sosa (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 5 SO) of the Mets; Philadelphia's Jimmy Rollins (.438, 1 HR, 5 RBI) and Antonio Alfonseca (0.00 ERA, 3 SV); Cristian Guzman (.444, 3 2B, 2 RBI) and Dmitri Young (.462, 1 HR, 5 RBI) of the Nationals; Chicago's Felix Pie (.323, 1 HR, 7 RBI) and Alfonso Soriano (.433, 4 HR, 8 RBI); Ken Griffey, Jr. (.316, 3 HR, 4 RBI) of the Reds; Houston's Lance Berkman (.348, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and Luke Scott (.381, 4 RBI); Ryan Braun (.370, 2 HR, 4 RBI) and Prince Fielder (.375, 4 HR, 7 RBI) of the Brewers; Pittsburgh's Xavier Nady (.313, 2 HR, 7 RBI); David Eckstein (.417, 2 RBI), Juan Encarnacion (.364, 2 HR, 3 RBI) and Albert Pujols (.364, 4 HR, 9 RBI) of the Cardinals; Arizona's Eric Byrnes (.400, 10 H) and Brandon Webb (1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 SO); Matt Holliday (.417, 4 2B, 2 RBI) and Ryan Spilborghs (.357, 2 HR, 7 RBI) of the Rockies; and Luis Gonzalez (.364, 2 HR, 6 RBI) of the Dodgers.

In recognition of this honor, Tourneau, the world's largest watch store, is proud to award the Bank of America Presents the National League Player of the Week Miguel Cabrera with a Tourneau luxury Swiss timepiece.
