Transformers: The Game takes players deeper into this summer’s hottest blockbuster action movie from Producer Steven Spielberg and Director Michael Bay. Play as the heroic Autobots or the evil Decepticons in an epic battle that puts Earth’s future in the balance.

The game is highly detailed, the graphics are great, and the robots are among the best I’ve seen in any Transformers Game, better yet in any game. The transformation between Robot mode and Vehicle mode was done fantastically, not too fast, yet it’s not too slow. The game really captured the feel of what a giant robot would really do in a real life city, which is to reek total havoc. Running in Robot mode would cause some buildings to crumble, and the screen sort of moves up and down to give the indication that a massively heavy (Transformer) object is moving about.

Moving around the city, either by car or flying is actually very amusing, demolition buildings either by shooting, punching or just by walking near them is very entertaining. Mostly every object in the game can be smashed and destroyed, lamps, cars and trees can be picked up and used as weapons.

Around each level there are about a hundred “yellow cubes” and some scattered  “Head icons”, that will unlock many Bonus Features once collected. Bonus materials including movie trailers, movie stills, old 80’s Transformers clips, character art, G1 Skins. You can also receive Stunt Bonuses in vehicle mode with speed, slides, jumps, Autobots receive points for Heroic actions while Decepticons are rewarded for causing destruction.

I would have loved if the makers incorporated a little more GTA in the game, The city feels almost empty, sporadically you’ll get into a battle with a robot drone, but I don’t know a little more pedestrian interactions when crashing into cars or destroying buildings, would have defiantly given the game an edge. Now I know, that these are giant robots so there is nothing a human can do to them. But in all fairness, pedestrians do panic when you are in robot mode, and that the police response becomes more intense as you destroy more objects.

The game is broken into two campaigns, in the Autobots campaign, you'll play as Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Jazz and Ironhide as you hunt for the AllSpark and try to protect Sam, and the rest of humanity. The Decepticons campaign has you playing as Megatron, Starscream, Barricade, Blackout, and Scorponok to track down the AllSpark and destroy the Autobots.

Each Charter in the game is different in size, speed and firepower. All have basically a heavy and a light weapon at their exposure, but some seem to have either a machine gun type light weapon or a regular weapon.

The Solid voice acting is outstanding, Peter Cullen as the Transformers leader Optimus Prime brings back memories and it wouldn’t feel right if another voice actor was chosen. A surprise was hearing Frank Welker reprising His role as the maniacal Megatron.

The unlockable G1 Skins in the game are a great touch, but the starscream skin was a little disappointing, Starscreams G1 skin is strange that is actually more of a paint job. The colors are from the generation One Series, but it the same body type from the movie, just with blue and red sprayed around, when he transforms to a jet it’s the same from the movie not G1. Optimus Prime and Megatron are the best skins cause it from the G1 era, right to the familiar red and blue Mack truck color we all love, Megatron is also done right, but my only complaint is that he doesn’t transform into a gun, instead he fly’s when the transform button is pressed.

Soundwave makes an appearance in the game, but doesn’t speak his trademark robot voice, which is weird, he’s no longer a Tape Recorder from the Generation one era, rather a helicopter and transforms into a military type gun which positions itself on the ground.

The Game is highly recommend to those whose interest was heightened after watching Michael Bay’s Blockbuster hit movie “Transformers The Movie, as well as the fans of The Transformers Cartoon series.
