You really have to take a step back from what came before. This movie is aimed at creating a new market for the Turtles to exist in and attempting to bring new fans and new blood into this universe. I thought the execution from that standpoint was great. I enjoyed the voice overs, Splinter being a personal highlight for me. SMG and Chris Evans were good, but from the turtles standpoint they were all great with the exception of Raphael, who seemed forced, just a little. The fight scenes were fantastic, and the follow shots of the turtles across the rooftops were my personal favorite.
CGI format allowed the turtles to fight and have camera shots that were hardly possible with live action. That was good; a few downfalls of the CGI were that at a few spots the turtles looked a bit like clay animation. Instead of going for a clear, realistic look alike, they still look a bit cartoonist. Splinter should have been kept a fragile old rat, instead of rejuvenating him for battle and basically making him like Yoda in the newer Star Wars movies.
April O' Neill and Casey Jones were awesome to see. Casey is still Casey, which is good, he's still the smart-alecky show-off he was in the originals, but April O' Neill is no longer a damsel in distress. She looks a lot like Lara Croft of Tomb Raider with the attitude of Uma Thurman's character in Kill Bill she seriously has some moves.
The turtles still have amazing wit and humor. Some people may say that this movie is too violent for young children. Yes, there is a lot of fight sequences, but that is expected. They never show blood in this movie though. I think that is an enjoyable movie for any age. The story is great, it keeps you entertained and I never wanted it to end. It truly is faithful to the original and I can't wait for them to make another one soon.
