Civic Duty
Thursday, 16 August 2007
The war on terror strikes close to home as an average U.S. citizen takes matters into his own hands to bring down a suspected terrorist in Civic Duty, debuting on DVD October 2 from Fox Home Entertainment.  Taking place in the highly charged atmosphere of a post-9/11 America, this tense and thought-provoking independent feature will “keep you on the edge of your seat” (New York Daily News, Jack Matthews).  Peter Krause (“Dirty, Sexy Money,” “Six Feet Under”) delivers a stellar performance as Terry Allen, who is convinced his Middle Eastern grad student neighbor is at the center of a terrorist conspiracy.   Obsessed with uncovering the truth and convinced he is all that stands in the way of another deadly attack; Civic Duty examines preconceptions about tolerance, prejudice, racial profiling, media pervasiveness and terror.  “Like Hitchcock…a tense thriller and a convincing portrait of our paranoid times” (Time Out New York, Mark Holcomb), Civic Duty features powerful performances from its supporting cast including Richard Schiff (“The West Wing,” Ray), Kari Matchett (“24,” “Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip”) and Egyptian film star Khaled Abol Naga, in his American film debut. Civic Duty will be available for the suggested retail price of $27.98.  Prebook is September 5, 2007.

Synopsis

Peter Krause “delivers a tour-de-force performance” (The Hollywood Reporter) in this “intense and startling movie” (Maxim) about an ordinary man driven by paranoia and fear to take national security into his own hands.  “A riveting microcosm of the tense, turbulent times in which we live” (NBC’s “Reel Talk”), Civic Duty is an “arresting” (Variety) thriller that takes the face of terror and brings it home.  When Terry Allen (Krause) loses his job in the wake of 9/11, his world is flipped upside-down. Terrified of another attack, assaulted by heightened threat levels and enraged by complacent citizens, Allen’s worst nightmare comes true when a “middle eastern” man moves in next door. But when his new neighbor’s suspicious activities lead Allen to believe he’s uncovered a terrorist conspiracy, nothing can prepare him for just how far he’s willing to go to protect his home and his country.
