Talks About His Album Titled "The LP"
SoHood.com: First, let's talk about your album, when is it set to drop? Knoc-turn'al: It's set to drop July 1st right before the July 4th weekend. And I got features on it like DJ Quik, Dr. Dre of course and it's executive produced by David Mayafield and Dr.Dre. I got Warren G, Nate Dogg, and Xizbit. I got a remix with 50 Cent and all kinda shit. I really took my time to make sure it comes out right. That's why the hold on. The album title is called The Lp.
SoHood.com: I'm confused you came out with an album? Knoc-turn'al: I came out an EP cause my album got bootlegged instead of giving the fans the same album that got bootlegged. I released the EP to create another budget for myself, so that I can give the fans totally new songs. I took my time to create a new album for them, cause I don't feel that will be fair to give something that they already got. Talks About East/West Coast Issues
SoHood.com: What are your feelings about the current lack of West Coast music not getting played on New York Radio Stations? Knoc-turn'al: New York is hatin'!! That's how I feel about West Coast rap and wants going on with it. They don't want to play our music and we play their music and they don't want to show us love. They don't spread luv like we spread the luv they sit up there and hate they won't play our music and all that, but chu know what, they come out here we play their music. We start actin' like them they won't have a career.
SoHood.com: What do you think about East Coast rappers incorporating a West Coast style in their music? Knoc-turn'al: I like it. It just shows you whose more dominant. We ain't trya sound like them, they trya sound like us. I ain't got no problem with them sounding like us, it's helping us stay alive. Help us eat. I got a daughter to feed don't try to sound like us, get a beat like us that's good.
SoHood.com: You feelin' any East Coast rappers right now except 50 Cent? Knoc-turn'al: 50 cent is tight, but he ain't from the West Coast, he ain't ridin' for us. He ridin' for New York, you gotta separate it down, if you gonna have a beef again. He ain't gonna ride for us, he gonna ride for New York.
Drops A Jewel SoHood.com: Just to educate some people out there, What's the defination of C.R.I.P? Knoc-turnal: Community Revolution In Process
Talks about The Music Aspect Of The West Coast
SoHood.com: In a past interview you said "People do too much bangin' instead of focusing on making a good music" Knoc-turn'al: Yeah, they do.. they not creative enough you know. Just because you're a gangsta rapper doesn't mean you can't be an MC also. You gotta get creative and get concepts and different shit. You can't just fuck around and just say I'ma be a gangsta rapper and say every other word is gonna be about bangin' and bangin' that. You got to have a concept man, you can't just not have a concept.
SoHood.com: So you think that could also be holding the West Coast back? Knoc-turn'al: Naah! I think the West Coast music is exactly where it is and people can accept it. But I think it's the major distribution lookin' for the wrong thing; they don't look for someone that's complete. They lookin' for someone that's just soundin' like they bangin'. That's not someone that's going to give you three whole albums. You got to look for someone that has creative potential.
Talks About Eminem's Influence In The Hip Hop Game
SoHood.com: What's your opinion about the current situation of Eminem, 50 Cent, and Busta Rhymes dissin Ja Rule? Knoc-turn'al: Well, I never liked Ja Rule, so he doesn't really matter. I'm glad somebody dissin him. You got a man who came in the game being a gangsta rapper and then turned around into a commerical pop muthafucka and I don't like it.
SoHood.com: Since you're a West Coast rapper did you feel any..Um, I don't know, cause he recently sampled Tupac to benefit himself to diss Ja Rule? Knoc-turn'al: Fuck Ja Rule!
SoHood.com: (Laughin') Knoc-turn'al: 50 Cent disses Ja Rule then let him do that you know that's cool. Who is Ja Rule a pop artist talkin' about he's tough. What does Ja Rule bring to this game? The fact that we got try to change our music up to even be us. What is he doing? He ain't trying to help us on the street side. He's really on the flip side of things if you boil it down. He on the flip side of everything, he ain't on our side. And even Will Smith in his day; he had some real shit before he even decided to do some shit like that. Now you got these people coming out thinking it's cool and that's the way they are and don't understand. Once you make a hit and that's your hit and it's a pop hit, you can't come back home to the streets. You got to stay on the pop hits to make your music.
SoHood.com: But many can say the same thing about Eminem? Knoc-turn'al: Hey, because he came out with my name is Slim Shady he's introducing himself to the world you don't understand that.
SoHood.com: Yeah, but you know what I mean. Knoc-turn'al: Then he came out with these voices, these voices, these voices, you hear them when they call him. He came out with hi my name is then he turned around. Yeah ok, people say he's a cartoon character he's this, he's that. He's a white boy who's tries to be a white boy he don't try to be a nigga. A white boy Hip-hop rapper that tries to be white. Every muthafucka' white person in America is feelin' him, why? Cause they feel like fuck you mom I hate you too. Mimics Eminem's scatchy voice (Fuck You Mom! I hate chu just like he do).
SoHood.com: (Laughs) Knoc-turn'al: And that's the element he brings to the game and white people feel like that. White kids feel like that, what I'm trying to say his place in society is apparent. Because there's alot of white kids that feel the same way; they get mad or curse their parents out and he's just bringing that to the world. He can't do that as a black man or hispanic people, but at the same time he can. And that's the way they feel, they'll kill their mom and dad and not even trip.
SoHood.com: Ok, I feel that man. Knoc-turn'al: You know what I mean?
SoHood.com: Yeah, I do.
