Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s

Guitar Hero is without a doubt the most exciting music video game franchise in the market, with only a few video game releases it’s reached Halo and Grand Theft Auto like status among the video game music genre. With the anticipation of Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock release looming, Guitar Hero encore: Rocks the 80s seems to have been released to hold over fans. Basically it’s GH but with a twist, it’s back to the 80’s, hair bands and over the top antics.

Many of the standout tracks included are “I Wanna Rock” by Twisted Sister, "Round and Round" – Ratt, "Holy Diver" – Dio and “18 and Life" - Skid Row. The tracklist is pure 80's Rock N Roll.

Everything that you love about Guitar Hero 2 is here, the simple Graphics, the layout and most importantly the Gameplay, and that in itself may be part of the problem, as the game feels like an expansion pack rather then a full retail game.

The previous two titles had great music to choose from, where now it’s mostly centered around the 80’s, were many bands careers didn’t last long, and some just sucked. This is in stark difference to what we saw in Guitar Hero I and II, where great tracks were plentiful. Though most of the tracks here are good songs when listened to over the radio, they might not be so fun to play to.

There are fewer characters to choose from this time around, exactly five, though there’s one unlockable character “Grim Reaper” which is highly priced and isn’t very original, but still fun to play with. Though you’re in 80’s décor, what’s strange is the rest of the band isn’t, their still in their Guitar Hero II gear, that sort of takes the fun out.

An alarming aspect is that there are only 30 tracks to be found, no bonus tracks to purchase in the store, which is well behind what we've seen in previous GH releases.

I strongly recommend this game, I mean c’mon it’s Guitar Hero and any Rock Fan would enjoy this and even the causal gamer could find pleasure and fun in this 80’s of a rock game. I wanna Rock and so will you.
