The Boo Yaa Tribe Steps to the forefront
The New album West Coasta Kostra from the group Boo Yaa Tribe which consist of six Samoan brothers (Godfather, Gangsta Ridd, Monster O, Murder One, Kobra, Gwatti) hits record stores October 7th. The group's album mainly features a host of rap artists from the West Coast (WC, Mack 10, Knoc-Turn'al, Kurupt, Crooked I, Eastwood, Short Shop, B-Real) except for the Detroit rapper Eminem whose featured on the track titled 911 which he produced, but the majority of the production on the album was handled by Battlecat.
The group's album "West Coasta Kostra" oddly enough consist of artists from Death Row Records- Kurupt, Crooked I, Eastwood, and Gail Gotti. The Boo Yaa Tribe's current business relationship with Suge knight prompt a swift response from the lead member of the Tribe named The Godfather "I can't speak about that," he told SoHood.com. Nevertheless, Death row's artists [the heavy hitters] made their presence felt throughout the album.
The Tribe aren't just rapping; they have their own Clothing line called "G.W.A.T.T.I." an acronym (Gangstas Always Wear The Tightest Ish) -sale figures are doing well in the states but the clothing line is especially popular in Japan. Even Hip-Hop's veteran rapper Treach from the group (Naughty By Nature), he had nothing but good things to say about the G.W.A.T.T.I. clothing line. "A big shout out to the Boo Yaa Tribe and a big thank you for the G.W.A.T.T.I. gear," said Treach over the airwaves of the Wendy Williams Radio Show back in March 2003.
Treach makes an appearance in the video "Bang On" the first single from the Boo Yaa Tribe's album West Coasta Kostra. The Godfather elaborates about their friendship "One of the truest artist," The Godfather told SoHood.com. "I mean, Treach, is like my brother. He's all the way over there [New Jersey] in the bricks. He flew out here to California to show us love in our music video."
After 15 years in the game- with a bangin' album and bangin' clothing line, the Boo Yaa Tribe are finally getting their just due, and rightfully so.
