I was recently e-mailed about Yoko Ono conducting an interview with a blogger’s web page. Here is what it said:
The legendary Yoko Ono, artist and musician, joined hosts Eric Olsen and Shaun Daily on BTR Today January 11, 2008, for an exclusive BlogTalkRadio interview.
Below are some notable quotes from Yoko Ono and interviewer Eric Olsen from the interview that will be of interest to you.
On “Yes, I’m a Witch”
YO: Well, I love them all, really, and I was in such a shock, you know, each time, I said “oh, they did that?” You know, like, it was really great.
----
YO: This album for instance, “Yes I’m a witch,” I asked them to pick the song that they wanted and remix in the way that they wanted… It’s a gamble in a way, but it’s a beautiful gamble because I really think that the results [are] fantastic and beautiful.
----
YO: But I really love what I did with “Yes, I’m a witch” too, it’s sort of like an incredible ‘now’ thing to do…
EO: You are as contemporary as it gets
YO: Well, I was before. [laughs] I was always doing it
EO: …you have been contemporary for much longer than most people are, though…you’ve had forty years. It’s pretty remarkable.
YO: Yeah, well, I like that…
EO: I think Shaun had a question and as usual I interrupted –
YO: Well, I said I like that, but actually you know what it was…it was…it was Hell okay?
EO: …would you care to elaborate a little on that?
YO: …I was a Dragon Lady for all of you, right?
EO: well, not me
YO: Well, okay, “Yes I’m A Witch” was made in, well that song was made at the height of all that…Yoko bashing. So I turned around and said “yes, I’m a witch, okay? Do you mind?” [laughs]
----
On contemporary music
EO: Do you listen to a lot of contemporary music?
YO: No. I listen to indie music, I really like what’s happening, you know? It’s like, alternative music is the main music now, which is great.
----
EO: How do you find music?
YO: I’m not a radio listener so much…also I do buy CDs
----
YO: I’ve got some friends who say ‘you better listen to that one’… [and my son Sean] he tells me about some of this stuff.
----
YO: it’s not like I’m just constantly listening to other people’s music, you know, ‘cause I’m just doing my own thing…so I don’t really listen so much to songs of other people.
On creation: YO: I get these inspirations; it’s very interesting that it just comes to me. Sometimes it comes as music, sometimes it comes as art, you know, sculpture or painting or performance art or something like that and whenever it comes into my head so to speak then I just dish it out. ---- YO: What I usually try to do is always try to top what I did before of course and of course try to get out of the limit of myself in a way. And then when you look back in hindsight, I never went out. ---- YO: I feel that I’m just sort of dropping a pebble in the water or something and seeing where it goes. In other words, my work usually asks for audience participation in a way. And so what happens is something that I don’t know, really. On Cirque du Soleil’s LOVE YO: The thing that George Martin and Giles Martin did really is fantastic…they enhanced the music of The Beatles. Instead of killing it or abusing it, they really enhanced it and it’s beautiful. ---- YO: All of us were worried initially…we did put our two cents in there and now it’s beautiful. ---- YO: George Martin was always there with the Beatles. So it wasn’t like someone you just met. It’s a different story.
