Behind The Boards: Daz Dillinger

-Q & A Interview by Mario Diaz, So Hood Magazine

Writer's Note: The following interview was conducted two years ago it was going to be printed in our Premiere Issue of So Hood Magazine but we decided to keep it in the vault until now.

The always outspoken Rapper/producer Daz known for his classic joints which he produced for the late Tupac 'Ambitionz Az A Ridah' and '2 of America Most Wanted' from his Death Row Records days. Last year, he signed a two-album deal with CEO Jermaine Dupri of So So Def. Daz is currently finishing up his album titled So So Gangsta, which will drop later on this year.

SoHood.com: How did that deal go down with Jermaine?
Daz:
I got a call from Jermaine and he was like I'm interesting in you. And I was like fuck it! I'm with it. I think he can take me to that level where I want to be at. And I'm just real humble and just happy that somebody took a look at my talent and what I've done.

SoHood.com: Were you shopping around for a deal?
Daz:
No, I wasn't shoppin' around, it was probably God sent, that this was suppose to happen for me.

SoHood.com: Who's a better producer Jermaine Dupri or P. Diddy?
Daz:
I like both of them, different styles you know, different attitudes in music, as far as a producer, which you know, nah mean.

SoHood.com: Is there any truth about Jermaine Dupri getting Punk'd by Death Row records at a Hotel, where Jermaine had to leave?
Daz:
Yeah, probably. Because Suge is full of shit, man. But you know, I'm here now; with [Jermaine Dupri] it's going to be a totally different story. Anything that's cracklin', anybody got beef, holla at me! I'm the new security at So So Def.

SoHood.com: How serious was the Tupac & Dr. Dre beef?
Daz: It was real serious they were fucking Michelle. They were sticking dick in Michelle, so Tupac was sticking dick, well you know, how that shit goes.

SoHood.com: How serious was the Tupac & Snoop Dogg beef?
Daz:
I don't know, it was Suge Knight in the mix of that, you know, as far as the Tupac and Biggie all that, nah mean. But I think, they had love for each other, it was just that the Devil was in it at the time.

SoHood.com: Is there a Tupac "Hit 'em up 3" diss to Snoop?
Daz:
There ain't no Hit 'em up 3! There's only one Hit 'em up, that's why you haven't heard of it.

SoHood.com: But have you heard it?
Daz:
Nah, that's what I'm sayin', muthafuckers [Death Row] just made that shit up.

SoHood.com: How's Lady of rage doing?
Daz: She's doing all right. She just had another baby and she got married I think.

Death Row Records Compilation Release Too Gangsta For Radio Booklet

SoHood.com: In the Too Gangsta for Radio Booklet a Death Row Records Compilation Release, there's two letters allegedly handwritten by you [Daz Dillinger] and Snoop, is there any truth to those letters?
Daz:
Nah, there's no truth to those letters.

SoHood.com: So you didn't write the letter?
Daz:
I didn't write it.

SoHood.com: Okay.
Daz:
You know, that's Reggie Wright making them do shit. Death Row is always gonna try to do anything to put themselves in power, but they ain't kickin' up shit.

SoHood.com: Are you going to continue, dropping albums independently while on So So Def?
Daz:
Nah, my main concern right now, is So So Def, Arista, and DPG. I am going to continue to drop albums independently as far as other artists. I just started my own distribution company to distribute people's records. So if anybody out there want to get there music distributed, hit me up
