Interview with Actress Paula Garces
Sunday, 06 April 2008
So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: What do you love about being the executive producer of your own upcoming animated film Red Princess Blues Animated: The Book of Violence?
Paula Garces: I love producing Red Princess because it gave me a great opportunity to have more creative control over my work and I got to experience fully what it is to create something from an idea and watch it grow into a project that is full of great potential to become something greater than anticipated. Red Princess Animated was produced to sell the idea for the full-length feature.  I am pleasantly surprised that it is doing so well on its own and it surpassed our expectations.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: You play an Officer named Tina Hallon on Fx's Television Series ‘The Shield’, how has the experience been like playing that role?
Paula Garces: Playing a role like Tina Hanlon has been a dream come true she was a full character that was full of life and flaws and was always learning and changing and evolving in a very real way. I truly got spoiled as an actress as I only got to work with the best actors, writers, and producers in television. I will truly miss them all that were involved in making "THE SHIELD".

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: In your opinion, what can viewers expect to come away with after watching the film Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay in theaters April 25th?
Paula Garces: Anyone who watches Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay will come away with a big smile on their face and a bellyache from laughing so much it is truly a fun ride that will not only make you laugh but it will make you think about issues that are socially and politically relevant in today's society.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: How was the experience like working with two directors Joe Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg on the set of Harold & Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay?
Paula Garces: I loved working with both directors who are extremely sweet and talented. I am very proud of their work in this film and I think they did an amazing job directing and writing this film and I hope to work with them again soon.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: How does it feel to be a young successful Latina actress representing Hispanics in Hollywood?
Paula Garces: I am very proud to be part of a community that shows their support and excitement for my work and successes. I can only hope that I make my Colombian and Mexican heritage proud.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: What’s next for you Paula Garces? Do you have any upcoming projects or are you in talks with any directors/movie execs of a potential movie role?
Paula Garces: The success of the animated short Red Princess Blues has made it possible to produce the live action feature and I will be filming it this summer.

HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY
Synopsis

(Release Date: April 25, 2008)
Director: Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg
Starring: John Cho, Kal Penn Rob Corddry, Roger Bart and Neil Patrick Harris

HAROLD AND KUMAR ESCAPE FROM GUANTANAMO BAY marks the triumphant return of these two hilarious, slacker anti-heroes. The movie stars John Cho (Star Trek, American Pie) as Harold and Kal Penn (The Namesake, House, Van Wilder) as Kumar, two stoners who can’t seem to get a break. Their last adventure found them traveling across country to find a White Castle hamburger in order to satisfy a weed-induced case of “the munchies.”

This time, the boys get themselves in trouble trying to sneak a bong onboard a flight to Amsterdam. Now, being suspected of terrorism, they are forced to run from the law and try to find a way to prove their innocence. What follows is an irreverent and epic journey of deep thoughts, deeper inhaling and a wild trip around the world that is as “un-PC” as it gets.
