3 Pigs Acquitted in Sean Bell Shooting (50 Bullets)
Apr 25, 2008 at 10:36 AM
The three New York City Police officers charged with an array of charges for the November 25th, 2006 shooting death of 23 year old groom Sean Bell, were cleared of all charges. Unarmed, Sean Bell died in a hail of 50 some bullets outside a strip club where he was having his bachelor party. Officers Michael Oliver, 36, and Gescard Isnora, 29, stood trial for manslaughter while Officer Marc Cooper, 40, was charged only with reckless endangerment. Two other shooters weren't charged. Oliver squeezed off 31 shots; Isnora fired 11 rounds; and Cooper shot four times.

Right now, the family of Sean Bell is headed to the cemetery to pay respect to the life that was lost.

Later in the day, at about 5:30, there is expected to be a rally outside the office of Queens District Attorney Richard Brown.

It is important to note the inaction of the Queens justice system in cases of racial violence against people of color, in what is one of the city's most diverse boroughs. Take for example the case of Manny Mayi and Jose Librado Sanchez.

There may be a Federal investigation leading to a civil rights violation case (but I wouldn't hold your breath on that). Police Commish Kelly, said he was holding off on police departmental proceedings by request of the Department of Justice.
