Air Hogs Battling Havoc R/C Helicopters Product Review
Wednesday, 14 May 2008
The Air Hogs Battling Havoc from Spin Master is an electric indoor micro RC helicopter aimed at ages 12 and above. The manufacturer has come up with helicopters that can battle one another, yes no joke, though it’s mostly just like laser tag. See once a helicopter has been hit, for a brief moment it starts to tumble out of control, but it can quickly snap out of it giving you enough time to pull up and save it from crashing to the floor.

The Battling Havoc hovers well, once you get it calibrated and adjusted using the included instructions. The transmitter has simple 2-stick controls. Moving the right stick forward moves the helicopter forward or pull back to go backward. Pushing the stick to the left or right moves it in that direction. The left stick of the controller is the throttle. Push forward to increase throttle. Releasing the left stick results in a gradual, not instant, deceleration.

Piloting the helicopter is fairly easy, but word to the wise, it takes some training at first, so don’t get discouraged. While it is easy to attain and sustain flight, it requires more finesse to keep it in the air once you start moving forward or backward or any other direction.

The only real problem I had with the Battling Havoc, is that it takes six AA batteries to operate, that’s a lot in my book, but I understand the energy needed to power the propellers. The Battling Havoc charge by connecting the wire in your controller to slot in the side of the Air hogs helicopter. Luckily, they charge fairly quickly, 15 minutes or so, and play lasts about 15 minutes too before recharging. That's not bad for a rechargeable toy.

The helicopters are very durable -- takes a licking and keep on ticking, as the saying goes. The body uses a more dense type of foam, so it’s virtually weightless. The rear rotor and propellers often are the hardest hit in a crash into objects, but surprisingly their more durable then I expected.

Being that the helicopters so lightweight, I think it makes it easier to keep in the air and easier to control. The packages comes with these lead like pieces that one could stick onto the bottom of the helicopters to help it improve flight - if your copter does move forward.

The Air Hog Battling Havoc R/C Helicopters was designed for flight indoors, so you never have to worry about rain, snow, or even accidentally landing the helicopter on the roof of your house, or in a tree. The Air Hog Battling Havoc R/C Helicopters also comes ready to fly out the box, no building required. The helicopter weighs only ounces, and is recommended for children ages 12 and older. You can purchase the Air Hog Battling Havoc R/C Helicopters for around $89.95.
