Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum Product Review
Sunday, 20 July 2008
Earlier this year, Matusalem Gran Reserva won the title of “Best Rum” and was proclaimed the “Double Gold Medal Winner” at the San Francisco Spirits Competition – the most prestigious competition of its kind in the U.S. Matusalem Rum was Cuba ’s best-kept secret until Fidel Castro came and kicked it out of the country.  After all these years, Gran Reserva has retained its rebellious spirit, as well as its rich Cuban heritage and history.  It’s award-winning and appealing to the “outcast” in all of us.

I must say that this is the first time that I tasted Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum (and I know, and I’m Dominican) but I was born here in the states, I didn’t grow up out in Dominican Republic, I did hear about Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum when I was over there in D.R. during my summer vacation last year but it’s a Cuban drink but made in Dominican Republic, I’m ashamed that I never tasted the drink until I was given a opportunity by Charlie Pino who hook it up for me, again good lookin’out!

And I tell this much, you know the saying the best things are worth waiting for, well that’s an under statement. It’s by far the best rum drink that I tasted with an impact of 80 proof to hit your chest in which it can warm up a Eskimo person in Alaska LOL.

As all you guys know from my other past alcohol drink reviews, I always like to chill my drinks in the refrigerator for at least three to four days. I never like drinking straight up shots not even at a bar I always ask mine with some ice cubes but that’s just me.

Anyhow the rum has a smooth taste that goes down easy but I won’t recommend a first timer to take a shot straight up you’ll probably cough or throw up if you can’t hold your liquor. For beginners only! First, take a sip and let it work your palate, so you can know what you’re getting yourself into; it’s some powerful stuff! LOL

Overall, the Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum experience left me with a hang over the next morning but it was one of those good hangovers! LOL Like yo! Friday night, let’s do it again! Let’s drink and don’t forget to bring the Matusalem Gran Reserva Rum bottle with you, so we can mix it up with some juice and get that nice feeling all night! -Product Reviewed by Mario Diaz, So Hood Magazine
