So Hood: When did your passion for writing begin? What kept you going?Yello: My passion for writing began after being hit by the Parole Board for the second time. I felt the need to do something constructive with my time. I passed the time reading everything I could get my hands on and soon wanted to tell my own story and the story of the cats I came up with. What kept me going are the number of people who said I couldn’t do it. Originally I planned to write a total of ten books and within a year I went on to write twenty. Respect The Jux is the first one being released.
Author Dadz AKA Yello
So Hood: Can you tell us how you found representation for your book?
Yello: A fellow prisoner mentioned a company by the name of “Keeplock Entertainment Inc” stating that he had a close friend who works for them. The next day he called his friend, who in turn asked me to send a copy of the book. I did as he asked, and the rest is history.
So Hood: How would you describe your own book?
Yello: It is what I would call “true fiction”. It is an entertaining, un-nerving, and accurate account that gives you insight into the world of Juxing told by none other than the most successful Juxter.
So Hood: Which character did you create first - and who inspired the characters in your book?
Yello: Cat was the first character I created. All the characters in the book are based on people I know or knew. I can even go as far to say that I may have done a jux with one or two of them.
So Hood: What were you trying to achieve with Respect the Jux?
Yello: A book that is authentic, at the same time entertaining. I want to capture an audience that would unlikely pick up a book to read.
So Hood: What was the book that most influenced your life?
Yello: The New York State law books. If I had read those books while on the streets, I would have been home free a long time ago, or maybe I never would have gotten locked up.
