80's Baby: Rocky Balboa The Ultimate Underdog Movie
Friday, 01 December 2006

Rocky Balboa also known as Rocky VI:
Former heavyweight champion
Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) steps out of retirement and back into the ring, pitting himself against a new rival decades after his initial glory. When a computer simulated boxing match declares Rocky Balboa the victor over current champion Mason "The Line" Dixon, the legendary fighter's passion and spirit are reignited. But when his desire to fight in small, regional competitions is trumped by promoters calling for a rematch of the cyber-fight, Balboa must weigh the mental and physical risks of a high profile exhibition match against his need to be in the ring.

When the Rocky Balboa movie came into fruition I was happy that Sylvestor was going to play the ultimate underdog hero in a boxing movie again but as a Hispanic decent man, who has enjoyed watching the Rocky  trilogy movies I was disappointed yet again by Sylvestor Stallone because yet again he has never put a Latino fighter in none of his Rocky films as Rocky ‘s main opponent and main attraction in his movies. All throughout the Rocky movies he has fought mostly black fighters.

In boxing history, they’ve been  some great Latino fighters from Roberto Duran, Julio Cesar Chavez to Marco Antonio Barrera, and Oscar De La Hoya etc. You might make a case that none of them were Heavyweights. But the fact still remains; there have not been any Latinos represented in Sylvestor Stallone's  Rocky movies. I still will watch this film and hopefully this film turns out to be better than his previous effort.
