Sports: A-Rod, Shaq, Favre

Shaq signs with Boston Celtics. The Eastern Conference champions signed 7-foot-1, 325-pound Shaquille O’Neal on Wednesday, adding the 15-time All-Star to a team needing his size with center Kendrick Perkins recovering from knee surgery that could sideline him until February.

The deal with the free agent center is for two years and about $3 million, a person with knowledge of the negotiations said on condition of anonymity because no details were released.-Ap

A-Rod becomes youngest to hit 600 HRs. A-Rod reached the milestone Wednesday after a 12-game drought with a first-inning homer off Toronto’s Shaun Marcum. Rodriguez connected with a 2-0 pitch over the middle of the plate for his 17th home run of the season, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead on a sweltering summer afternoon.

Favre: ‘I haven’t made a decision’ yet. Favre said Wednesday that he has not made up his mind on retirement and likely will return for a 20th season if he feels his body can take it.

“I haven’t made a decision,” said Favre, who also denied sending text messages to the Vikings telling them otherwise.
