Eddie Murphy: Crafty Criminals & Cops in Comedies
With the recent release of Tower Heist out now on Blu-ray and DVD. We at SoHood.com decided to take back a look at memory lane on Eddie Murphy’s successful and brilliant acting performances on screen.

(L-R) Nick Nolte and Eddie Murphy in 48 Hours
Let’s begin with Eddie’s first cop film 48 Hours with Nick Nolte. In the film, Eddie is downright cocky and witty. Both Nick and Eddie pulled off an amazing performance. Eddie simply has an aura about him on screen that to this day you can’t take your eyes off him. He also displayed a better all around acting performance in another cop film Beverly Hills Cop.

(L-R) Martin Lawrence and Eddie Murphy in Life
In the film, Life, where the story revolves around two criminals (Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence) who discover the value of life after being sentenced to life imprisonment. And I can’t forget, when Eddie got to work with the great Robert De Niro in the film Showtime, a spoof of buddy cop movies where two very different cops are forced to team up on a new reality based T.V. cop show.
But what makes Eddie Murphy such an icon in crafty criminals and cops in comedies is his ability to adapt to the role. Whether its a Congressman in the film The Distinguished Gentleman or a petty criminal in Tower Heist, he’s simply a rare talent in Hollywood cinema.
