Shank 2 is the sequel to the hit arcade game shank that was released in 2010 on the Xbox 360 and PS3. Shank 2 ‘s overall gameply hasn’t changed much, though it does feature an updated game mechanics and a Survival mode.
For those who have never played Shank, its a 2d side-scroller beat em up game, that features bloody gameplay, mixed with over the top combos and weapons that are infused with a comic style art.
Shank has an easy combat system, there are three ways to deliver pain, strike with a Light or heavy attack and a ranged attack, for those hard to reach enemies. This time around you have the ability to dodge or roll away from enemies, with a flick of the right analog. It will send you rolling out of harms way, though it sometimes leads to your death, as you roll right into your enemies path.
The weapons available in Shank 2 are fun to use, as you can now pick the weapons you want to use in your load out. Chainsaws, machetes, grenades, shotgun, pistols. Some enemies dro pick-able weapons that one can use. One odd one is the able to pick up a large fish, that one can smack enemies with, others include, bones, sticks with fire, shovels, chef knifes and more.
The animated scenes are very cool, comic book like, it helps bring the story together, though the main story is lacking a bit. The story mode features 8 levels, each level has big boss battles.
Shank 2 features a ton of unlockable skins that can only be unlocked, by completing varies tasks throughout the game, in the main campaign or in Survival mode.
Survival mode: is a good way of unlocking characters and trophies. As this mode is a great co-op mode to play with friends, because the main campaign doesn’t feature a co-op mode.
Closing Comments: If you love the first shank, then it’s a no doubter that you purchase Shank 2. I’ll even recommend Shank 2 to those gamers who enjoy a good 2d Brawler.
