Overview: In this searing police thriller, Jonathan (Channing Tatum) is a second-generation cop who gets in over his head when he’s assigned to re-open a double homicide cold case in his Queens neighborhood. An anonymous source feeding new information on the long-unsolved murders to a local reporter (Juliette Binoche) leads to evidence suggesting a possible cover-up by the former lead detective (Al Pacino) who was on the investigation. As Jonathan digs deeper into the assignment, a dark secret about the case emerges, which threatens to destroy his life and his family. Written and directed by Dito Montiel, Son Of No One also stars Tracy Morgan, Katie Holmes, Ray Liotta and Jake Cherry. Music by David Wittman and Jonathan Elias.

Spoiler Alert

Review: As young teenagers Jonathan White (Channing Tatum) and Vincent Carter (Tracy Morgan) lived in the Housing projects of Queens, New York. Back then the teenage Jonathan was the son of a police officer. On one night something went terribly wrong, and Jonathan inadvertently killed a man. His only witness to the murder was his old friend Vincent. Detective Charles Stanford, which is played by Al Pacino, knew what took place that night but since he knew Jonathan’s old man, he turned the other cheek.

Fast forward to the present, and Jonathan is an adult and he has followed in his father’s footsteps as a police officer. But that night has come back to hunt Jonathan. Someone knows the secret cover up which was done by Detective Charles Stanford. A local newspaper journalist reporter Loren Bridges, which  is played by actress Juliette Binoche, publishes anonymous letters slowly revealing the cover-up.

(L-R) Police Officer Jonathan White (Channing Tatum) & Det. Charles Stanford (Al Pacino)

Captain Marion Mathers played by Ray Liotta acts naive as to the letters that are being sent to a Loren Bridges. He tells Jonathan to go talk to her and smooth it over with her. But Loren doesn’t listen and she continues to publish the letters.

From then on, Jonathan gets nervous and tries to find the person behind the written letters. Things get serious after the local newspaper reporter Loren gets murdered. Without giving away too much, I’ll say that the film was solid as far as it kept me entertained all the way to the end.

I would have liked to see Al Pacino a little more in the film but given that he was a retired Detective, he only popped up in the flashback scenes, but I’ll take it. Anyways, I just think this film, they needed a better lead actor than Channing Tatum, don’t get me wrong, he’s a decent actor but he doesn’t have a strong presence on screen. I was impressed by Tracy Morgan acting skills. He sure played the part well.

Overall, I recommend you guys to rent the film or catch it on netflix.
