Beyond Scared Straight: Episode 4 Lieber

In the upcoming episode  of Beyond Scared Straight, six teens, some of whom have already served time in juvie, get a dose of grown-up prison life at the Lieber Correctional Facility in South Carolina. The inmate-run “Operation Behind Bars” program puts the teens in tiny cells and introduces them to “Lock-Up,” the prison within a prison for the worst inmates. The most shocking moments come when the prison’s murderers and thieves tell the kids their personal stories.

About the Show: Scared Straight!, the Academy Award & multiple-Emmy®-winning documentary film by Arnold Shapiro, made a huge impact on audiences through its portrayal of an effective juvenile prevention/intervention program at a NJ prison. Over the years, both the prison program and the film have turned countless kids away from drugs, violence and crime, and kept them out of prison.

@ Big Al – I am very curious about his (Six-Nine’s) story. I don’t want to write him or anything but I’d like to read about the crime he committed. I’ve worked in Probation & Parole and Criminal Apeals in the stateof Florida and every now and then I get intrigued about the story behind certain crimes. His is one that I am curious about. How does a person on their way to college with scholarships, a star athlete who is well spoken and seemed to have everything going for himself end up serving 30 to life in prison. Do you know if there are news articles or where I can read more about this

I hope this show is effective in portraying how awful prison is and keeps the young kids from going down that road.

I work at SCDC….the guys in the maroon tshirts (for the show only) are not actors. Ladies get real…write a Soldier Hero.. not a Convict Inmate. Get real.

Six nine was my M F-CKER in high school. I saw him the same day he committed his crime and was suppose to hang out with him that night. God was looking out for me that day! What a waste of a good person, drugs messes his head up.

I was at Lieber from 96 to 2000 with Henry Blewer and 6’9. I can assure you they aren’t actors. Long hair isn’t allowed but there are still plenty of Rastas on lockup cause they refused to cut it. Beards aren’t allowed either, only a mustache. Everything you saw was real and those were real inmates.
