The film casts a young boy who lost his place as a Hon, due to the death of his father who was the Hon prior to his death. Through his whole childhood and teenage life he was hounded and tracked by the warrior who took his rights as a Hon.
After losing his right as a Hon the young warrior wondered the hills and mountains to survive. Until he became a man, he came back with great force not just to gain his right but also to gain freedom and respect for women and children and to set the laws of the Mongol people.
The film was not just about war to gain freedom and respect, but had a touch of love. Amidst the misfortune of one warrior, he had a true love that stood by his side no matter who and where she was. She found ways to make it back to his side and always supported his goal.
There was action to the end. This movie has wonderful sceneries. It takes you to the beautiful land of the Mongol people, and throughout the film there wasn’t a dull moment.
If anything, this movie can be contrasted and compared with the move The Last Samurai. I would rate this movie the same rating as the move The Last Samurai, but the cast in The Mongol seemed to be all original, in essence indigenous. Mongol gives an accurate account, executed with fine acting, and easy to read subtitles. Action and beautiful scenery abound. This film is an excellent piece of work and should be nominated as Best Foreign Film.
The film is set in ancient times and wars when they fought with samurai swords as well as bows and arrows. It also showed that the tribes back then were magnificent horseback riders and marksmanship. Mongol is a must to see movie.
