Interview with actress Sofia Vergara

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Just recently Lionsgate has released Tyler Perry’s Meet The Browns DVD. How was the experience like working with Tyler Perry on the set of Meet The Browns?
Sofia Vergara:
Yes, it was fantastic! I liked it so much that I just finished another movie with him. It’s called Madea Goes To Jail and as a director he let’s you put in a lot of your input and personality and what you think will make the character funny. He was just fantastic to work with.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Did you do any research or preparation for the TT role in Madea Goes To Jail?
Sofia Vergara
: No, he sent me the script and um, I auditioned for the character [T.T.] and then during the table read, I showed him my IPOD you know, so he could see because he’s the director and he knows exactly what works for his movie and he wrote it. But he loved what I did and he hired me for Madea Goes To Jail.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Is there any much difference between working on TV than filming a movie?
Sofia Vergara:
Oh yeah! There’s a lot differences cause TV, you know, your time you can’t do much because it’s on schedule for a month and for a movie it’s like three months or one month and you’re done. But TV is very fast too and you have to produce more hours of filming and movies there’s a lot of waiting [Laughing].

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Okay, but which do you prefer?
Sofia Vergara
: I prefer movies. But you know, TV pays very well and it reaches everybody, so it’s good too.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Okay, you know, some actors and actresses they don’t like watching themselves on screen. Is that the case with you?
Sofia Vergara
: I don’t care really like I don’t even think about it. I like to watch in a way, so I can correct myself on things that I should’ve done better, this and that but to fix things to be able to see them, so I don’t mind, I don’t even think about it, I just watch it.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: How does it feel to be a successful Latina actress?
Sofia Vergara
: I’m not that successful but hopefully I’m on my way, I’ve been doing stuff little by little and roles here and there. I haven’t stopped working since I decided I wanted to be an actress, so I can’t complain but I think I have a very long way to go.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: But you’ve had a very busy acting career with TV shows and movies, so obviously you’re doing something right?
Sofia Vergara
: Yeah! It’s been like a crazy big long road but I keep it easy and I’m learning cause I never really had training as an actress and I don’t really want to get involved with a project that it’s too big for me.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Hypothetically speaking, if there was a male actor in Hollywood to choose from to be stranded on a deserted island, whom would you pick?
Sofia Vergara
: Oh my God! I have a big list! [Laughing].

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: [Laughing].

Sofia Vergara
: I only have to pick one?

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Yes.

Sofia Vergara
: Umm, I don’t know but for this kind of situation. [She paused to think for a second] I think maybe Leonardo DiCaprio! [Laughing].

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: [Laughing]. Okay! So what types of music do you like listening to?
Sofia Vergara
: Well, I love Latin music, of course, Shakira, I’m really a big fan of reggaeton but I listen to everything like Coldplay. I have a sixteen-year-old son, so I pretty much always listen to what he’s listening to.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: What’s your favorite food dish?
Sofia Vergara:
I love sushi and Italian food.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: No platanos [No plantains]?
Sofia Vergara
: Yeah! And any Latin food, you know, and Colombian food.

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: What’s next for you as far as projects?
Sofia Vergara
: Well, I just finish Madea Goes To Jail. I’m working right now on a shoe line for the United States and we’ll see what happens. And I’m starting to go out again for auditions to see if I can get another part. You know, that’s the thing with all actresses all the time; we’re looking and looking [Laughing].

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: Let me ask you something, did you get a free car when you did those Cadillac commercials?
Sofia Vergara
: No, I didn’t get a free car but I got a lot of money though [Laughing].

So Hood Magazine SoHood.com: [Laughing]. Yeah, you brought yourself those cars! But Sofia, thanks for your time today!
Sofia Vergara
: Thank you so much! Bye!
