Revisit one of television’s most deliciously daring hit series in its critically-acclaimed sophomore season, when THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON ascends onto its DVD throne as a four-disc set on January 6 from Showtime, CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Entertainment.
Jonathan Rhys Meyers (Match Point, TV’s Elvis) returns to his “boisterously, enjoyably inappropriate” (USA Today) Golden Globe-nominated** role as Henry VIII, whose promiscuous ways change the course of history as he moves to divorce Queen Katherine (Maria Doyle Kennedy) and marry Anne Boleyn (Natalie Dormer), prompting Pope Paul III (eight-time Academy Award nominee Peter O’Toole) to have him excommunicated. Anne’s failure to provide Henry with a male heir sets the wheels in motion for her eventual beheading and sends the King into the arms of Jane Seymour (Anita Briem).
In the tradition of Showtime’s brilliant original programming, THE TUDORS continues to garner record viewership for the network, and also picked up 2008 Golden Globe nominations for Best Television Series – Drama and Best Actor (Rhys Meyers), following its 2007 Emmy wins for the series’ costuming and theme music. THE TUDORS returns to Showtime for a third season in the spring of 2009, with Grammy Award winner Joss Stone joining the cast as Henry’s fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.
THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is packaged on four DVDs featuring all 10 episodes, plus two featurettes: Tower of London and Descendants of Henry, and the season two premieres of Showtime’s Golden Globe nominated series CALIFORNICATION and Emmy nominated series THIS AMERICAN LIFE. Viewers will also have access via EBridge Technology to unlock and view the first two season three episodes from Showtime’s Golden Globe nominated series DEXTER and the second episode from CALIFORNICATION’s second season. THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON will be available for the suggested retail price of $42.99.
THE TUDORS: THE COMPLETE SECOND SEASON is a four-disc set presented in wide screen with English 5.1 Surround, English 2.0 Surround and Spanish Mono. The DVD is not rated in the U.S.
