Jay Cutler Ask For Trade, NFL News

Jay Cutler formally asks Broncos for trade. Broncos quarterback Jay Cutler has formally asked to be traded, a request he made Sunday through his agent, Bus Cook. For now, the Broncos are hoping to appease Cutler’s concerns and reach an understanding so they do not have to trade him, coach Josh McDaniels told The Denver Post on Sunday night. Cutler and Cook issued the trade request a day after a meeting with McDaniels and general manager Brian Xanders did not go the way quarterback had hoped. “I would like to talk to Jay before we go on and start to discuss some other type of alternative,” McDaniels said Sunday night. “In the last couple weeks, we’ve been all about trying to communicate and resolve his unhappiness with what happened — which we understand — and that’s been our direction.” It won’t happen at McDaniels’ first team meeting, which will be held this morning at the Dove Valley headquarters. Cutler will not be there. Ben’s Take: Cutler is much closer to Jake Plummer than John Elway. If Cutler ends up in Detroit its 100% that he’s the new Joey Harrington. — Denver Post

Ex-Ram Torry Holt won’t be visiting Titans or any other NFL team soon. It appears that Torry Holt won’t be visiting the Tennessee Titans or any other NFL team soon. The reason — Holt is currently out of the country on vacation, according to a league source, so barring the unlikely decision by Holt and his agent to sign somewhere sight unseen, it appears that the wide receiver will wait at least a few days before making his decision on the next stop of his football career. Holt was released by the St. Louis Rams after 10 seasons there over the weekend, after the club did not wish to pay a $1.25 million roster bonus that would have been due on Tuesday. The Titans are one of several clubs interested in taking a look at Holt, who had 64 receptions last year for the 2-14 Rams. Ben’s Take: Example 741 on how the NFL is different from the real world. When normal people get laid off they go collect unemployment, when NFL players get dumped they go out of the country on vacation. It must be nice!– Nashville City Paper

Zorn hopes Skins will re-sign Daniels. Jim Zorn is still hopeful that the Redskins will re-sign left end Phillip Daniels and strongside linebacker Marcus Washington, the starters at those spots the past five seasons when healthy. However, neither is expected back without accepting a greatly reduced salary. — Washington Times

Browns paid Stallworth $4.75 million bonus day before he killed man driving. The Profootballtalk.com story said an unidentified source told the Web site prosecutors are preparing an indictment for DUI manslaughter if the blood test shows Donte Stallworth’s blood alcohol content was more than the Florida legal limit of .08. Stallworth has not been charged in the accident. He was detained for questioning Saturday and then released. He will have to turn himself in if charges are filed. Sanchez was asked whether Stallworth might still face charges if the blood test shows Stallworth was not intoxicated. Sanchez said that would be up to a judge. Sanchez on Sunday said it could take three days to three weeks to get the blood test results back. Less than 24 hours before the incident, the Browns honored a $4.75 million bonus due Stallworth as part of the contract negotiated in 2007 by Phil Savage and Trip McCracken when Stallworth signed a seven-year, $35 million contract. Normally, bonuses earned in March are paid in installments in April and June. If Stallworth is charged and subsequently convicted the Browns could recoup the $4.75 million bonus because of standard language in a contract that protects the club if behavior makes it impossible for a player to honor his contract. — Cleveland News-Herald

Titans eye free agent Jarrett Bush to replace Carr?. As a cornerback, Chris Carr would not have been more than the dimeback in Tennessee, something that restricted free agent Jarrett Bush might handle if the Green Bay Packers choose not to match the offer sheet the Titans signed him to on Friday. In any event, the Titans are still in need of a return man. Rafael Little is a possibility, but the Titans are looking at all options, including recent visitors Justin Miller of Oakland and Mark Jones of Carolina. — Nashville City Paper
