T.O. Dismisses Aikman’s Comments On His Release From Dallas. Former Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens talked to reporters in Buffalo on Thursday after surprisingly showing up for off-season workouts with the Bills. He also surprisingly took the high road when asked about Troy Aikman’s recent endorsement of the Cowboys decision to release him last month. “That’s fine. Troy’s Troy,” Owens said. “I think he has three Super Bowl rings so he has the authority to say that. So other than that, I’m fine. I’ve been called selfish pretty much throughout my career. I think I’m in good company. Jerry Rice has been called selfish before, as well as a number of other guys. You know, I’m still probably going to be called selfish. So other than that, it doesn’t bother me what he says. “I come from a background where I wasn’t even thinking about getting drafted. I went to a small school. So the things I’ve accomplished so far really eclipses anything negative that anybody says about me. So he said it, and I move on.” — Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Jets Leon Washington waiting to cash in. Leon Washington would like to make a withdrawal. “Everything I’ve done is in the bank in a sense,” the Jets running back said yesterday. “I’ve been saving over the last three years for this opportunity that will be coming up here.” That opportunity is the one to renegotiate his rookie contract. Washington has one year left on his four-year deal that will pay him slightly more than $600,000 this season. Washington’s agent, Alvin Keels, and the Jets are discussing a new deal believed to be in the area of $3-4 million a year. “The main thing that’s a positive is we both want to get something done,” Washington said. “The Jets, they’ve been expressive about wanting to get something done. I don’t want to get into details, but I believe things will work out for the best.” Washington has taken part in the team’s offseason workout program unlike his backfield mate, Thomas Jones. Jones is also looking for a new deal. — NY Post

Bengals planning to trade Ocho Cinco. There is speculation that Bengals owner Mike Brown might have been laying the groundwork for a trade of Chad Ocho Cinco by having Jeremy Maclin in for a workout. Ocho Cinco has been relatively quiet this offseason, but his failure to show up for workouts and his decision not to have rotator cuff surgery on his left shoulder requested by the team would seem to indicate he still wants out. — Columbus Dispatch

Giants CEO talks about teams handling of Plaxico Burress. Giants president and CEO John Mara, on with Sirius-AM’s Chris Russo, on whether the Giants shouldn’t have even considered bringing Burress back: “Well, I could understand people feeling that way. What we had decided to do was, ‘Let’s wait and see what happens when he makes his court appearance,’ the one that just occurred in the last week or two. Let’s see what the outcome of that is and we don’t have to make any decision prior to that. Let’s just wait to see what happens when we have all the facts and let’s see exactly what we’re dealing with. Unfortunately, the case was postponed again and we felt like that would continue to leave us in limbo here. We were attempting to settle one of the two grievances out there with him — one of which was decided in his favor just the other day. We were not having much success in those settlement discussions. And we just felt like enough was enough, it’s time to just move on. And Jerry Reese attempted to contact him on a number of occasions and was not able to get a hold of him. And that, to be honest with you, irritated me quite a bit. … I just felt like all those circumstances and the fact that we weren’t going to know about his legal status for quite some time, we just felt like the time was right to just move on and go in a different direction.” — Newark Star-Ledger
