NBA News: Knicks, Cavs, Trades

Knicks interested in Ricky Rubio. The Knicks have not given up hope on Ricky Rubio and are still trying to interview the 18-year-old Spanish point guard phenom this week before Thursday’s NBA Draft, according to a source. Rubio will be in New York for the draft but hasn’t worked out for teams. Rubio visited Sacramento, but did not work out. Rumors are circulating that Rubio could fall because of the complexity of his $6 million buyout and the Kings are no lock to take him at No. 4. Rubio has sued his Spanish club and a court hearing is scheduled for tomorrow. A Spanish source said he would not be surprised if Rubio starts the preseason in Spain. If the Kings pass, Rubio, some people in the league predict, could fall as low as eight to the Knicks, who are trying to trade up for Stephen Curry or the Spaniard. — NY Post

Nets Vince Carter to Cavs?. A source said the Cavs and Nets have discussed parameters of a Vince Carter trade. Yes, the Nets would love cap relief, but if they dealt Carter, they’d lose some of their fan base. They’re having trouble getting people there now. — Cleveland News-Herald

Knicks Hughes, Jeffries to Wizards?. Following up on that Knicks-Wizards rumor involving the fifth overall pick: There have been recent conversations between the teams about players, mainly ones the Wizards are interested in on the Knicks roster. But what may come as a surprise is that Wilson Chandler doesn’t appear to be the main ingredient here. In fact, from multiple sources with knowledge of the Wizards’ strategizing, they’re the ones who have inquired about two former Wiz players, Larry Hughes and Jared Jeffries. — Newsday

Cavs could afford Yao Ming?. Similar to Cavs forward LeBron James, Rockets center Yao Ming can opt out of his contract next summer. He’d be walking away from $17.6 million. If the Cavs play their cards right, they could have cap space to fit Yao onto their team. Right now, the Cavs have just $37.3 million committed to six players in 2010. But it’s unlikely the Cavs will have the necessary space to add a player like the 7-foot-6 Yao. What’s unsure is who is calling the shots with Yao — him and his agent or the People’s Republic of China. — Cleveland News-Herald

If Ricky gets to be the man in New York, that would be so cool.
