Suns agree to send Shaq to Cavs. The Phoenix Suns have agreed in principle to send center Shaquille O’Neal to the Cleveland Cavaliers for Ben Wallace, Sasha Pavlovic, cash and a second-round pick in Thursday’s draft, according to multiple reports. The deal could be finalized Thursday.
Knicks unlikely to deal for Rubio. The Knicks hopes of trading up in the draft for Ricky Rubio — always a longshot — looked to be dashed last night when two NBA GMs told The Post that Minnesota was close to a deal with Washington, and possibly Memphis, to move up to the second slot. Minnesota would gain Washington’s fifth pick and would try to package the fifth and sixth to Memphis to move up to No. 2, according to sources. That scenario was similar to the one the Knicks had discussed with Washington, obtaining the Wizards’ fifth pick. — NY Post
Mavs eye Pistons’ Tayshaun Prince, Nets’ Vince Carter?. The Mavericks will continue to try to use Jerry Stackhouse’s contract as the primary chip in trade talks that they are confident will still pay off in the long run. “There’s a chance we could do something around the draft and probably an equal chance we would just carry it into July when a lot of the bigger deals are going to be discussed,” Nelson said. “We don’t feel any outward sense of urgency because somebody else is doing something. But when it’s right, we’ll squeeze the trigger.” The Mavericks still expect to make a deal involving Stackhouse. Teams like Chicago (Kirk Hinrich), Detroit (Tayshaun Prince), Milwaukee (Luke Ridnour), New Jersey (Vince Carter) and Philadelphia (Samuel Dalembert) are looking to dump players with longer-term contracts. If the Mavericks offered Stackhouse and somebody like Erick Dampier. — Dallas Morning News
Wizards won’t deal Arenas, Jamison or Butler. According to multiple sources, GM Ernie Grunfeld had no intention of dealing any of the Wizards’ three best players, Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison or Caron Butler, who had attracted the most attention for a potential trade. With Jamison turning 33 this month, and Arenas turning 28, Butler turning 29 and Brendan Haywood turning 30 this season, the Wizards have a steadily closing window of opportunity. — Washington Post
Knicks’ David Lee to Detroit, Portland or Oklahoma City. David Lee, an energetic rebounder, is coming off a breakout season. The Knicks seem determined to keep him, provided doing so does not jeopardize their salary-cap space in 2010. A handful of teams with cap space this summer — including Detroit, Portland and Oklahoma City — could pursue Lee and push up his price. — NY Times
