NBA News: Update on Lamar Odom, Lakers

Lakers reduce offer for Odom. As Lamar Odom continues to mull his future, still hopeful that an improved offer for the Los Angeles Lakers is forthcoming, Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade is trying as hard as he can to convince Odom to end his free-agent wait.

Wade announced via his Twitter account late Sunday night that he has flown to Los Angeles to “bring Odom bac (sic)” to the Heat. That was Wade’s follow-up to an earlier weekend tweet in which he implored Odom to “come back to where it started for the both of us.” -ESPN

Oddsmakers see Lakers as NBA favorites, with or without Lamar Odom. Whether free agent Lamar Odom stays in Los Angeles or leaves for the Miami Heat, Las Vegas bookmakers said Monday they don’t anticipate anything that would drop the Lakers from their perch as preseason favorites to win the NBA championship — again.

At MGM/Mirage, the Lakers are an 8-5 favorite to win the NBA title, followed by the Boston Celtics, and recent addition Rasheed Wallace, at 3-1, and the Cleveland Cavaliers, with Shaquille O’Neal joining LeBron James, at nearly 4-1. The Orlando Magic are 13-2 and the San Antonio Spurs are 7-1. -latimes.com

I don’t understand why so many sports writers, analysts, and fans are so convinced that LO will make or break LA’s finals repeat. He showed up big time in the finals, but he was only good during the regular season. Nothing spectacular. Someone always shows up in the post season. Whether Fisher, Horry, Lindsay Hunter, or anyone else, someone always shows up.

The Lakers without LO is like Kobe with a sprained pinky finger. It won’t effect the outcome at all.
