Overview: In a desperate and unjust land, where government corruption rules the day, only one man has the courage to challenge the system and fight back. They call him Iron Monkey. Under the shadow of night, in the silence before dawn, he fights to give hope to the poor and the oppressed. Although no one knows his name and no one knows where he comes from, his heroism has made him a living legend to the people and a wanted man to the powers that be. Unable to capture this elusive Robin Hood through normal avenues, the ruthless government devises a plan: force a nationally renowned master fighter into service by taking his beloved and only son hostage. The mandate is simple, track down the Iron Monkey if he ever wants to see his boy again. But when the Iron Monkey’s identity and true intentions are revealed to him, the tables turn, and these two great men, one known and one masked, join forces to take down the evil empire and reclaim the rights of the common people.

Iron Monkey is a Kung-Fu style version of Robin Hood. The land is ruled by a corrupt governor who starves the people by keeping food away from them so he can sell it for more profit. Iron Monkey robs from the governor and gives to the poor. The story is very generic and not important, as expected. The plot points are just added to make excuses for more good fight scenes. The plot is not very serious and the comedy didn’t work too well.
The two best actors were Iron Monkey and Miss Orchid. The action was good but not the best. I prefer stuff that looks a little more realistic. Some of the fight scenes were a little too over done for my taste. The final scene was just too unbelievable for me. The fight scene between Iron Monkey and Wong Kei-Ying was good and the fights between those two and some of the emperor’s monks were also good. Young Wong Fei-Hung’s fights are also very good and very skilled. Miss Orchid’s fight scenes are also worth noting, as they were really good.
Ultimately, nobody cares about the plot or the acting of this movie; they just care about the action. I like wire work very much but I prefer it to be used within reason. I like the action to be as real as possible, consequently, the action in Iron Monkey was good, but I have seen action I like better in other movies. If you like any kind of action, realistic or not, then this movie is right for you. Slightly Recommended.
