MLB: Yankees, Cabrera, Vazquez, Mets,

Braves get Cabrera, Dunn. The New York Yankees have acquired Javier Vazquez from the Atlanta Braves for Melky Cabrera and Mike Dunn, sources told ESPN The Magazine senior writer Buster Olney.

The addition, the Braves are sending right-hander Boone Logan to the Yankees, sources said, and the Yankees are sending the Braves $500,000 in the transaction.

Vazquez, with a 15-10 record, ranked second in the major leagues last season with 238 strikeouts and sixth in ERA at 2.87. This is his second time around with the Yankees, having pitched in New York in 2004, when he went 14-10 with a 4.91 ERA. -ESPN

Idle Mets lose out on Marquis. Marquis made it known last summer that he was interested in returning home to pitch for the Mets, but general manager Omar Minaya remains committed to signing left fielder Jason Bay and catcher Bengie Molina before addressing the rotation. A league source confirmed that Marquis was on the Mets’ radar.

The 31-year-old Marquis went 15-13 with a 4.04 ERA for the Rockies last season. He also has gone to the postseason with the Braves, Cardinals and Cubs. -New York Post

Marquis Agrees to Two-Year, $15 Million Deal With Nationals. If the Washington Nationals make the playoffs in 2010, Jason Marquis may truly be a talisman.Marquis, a native of Staten Island, has said that he was interested in pitching in New York. The Yankees want to add another starter but at best had shown cursory interest in Marquis. The Mets seemed a more logical destination. They wanted a consistent back-end starter to pitch deep into games and reduce the uncertainty surrounding pitchers Oliver Perez, Mike Pelfrey, John Maine and Jon Niese. -New York Times
