Dominican comedian Freddy Beras-Goico has died at the age of 69 in the United States. He hosted the defunct TV show “El Gordo de La Semana” and he was a staple of primetime (and late night) TV. He was one of the most recognized personalities in the Dominican Republic.
Beras died at the Mount Sinai Medical Center on Thursday in New York. Admitted to the hospital on November 5th, the comedian died on Thursday, three days before his 70th birthday, of pancreatic cancer.
The president of the Dominican Republic, Leonel Fernandez, said that he spoke out against the social and political conflicts of the country. He added that “He appealed with energy and integrity for the construction of a better society.”
As I watch some Dominican channels today of his burial with my family, I can recall the fun times just watching this legendary Dominican comedian. The guy just made me laugh out loud. I’m proud that he helped and touched so many people with his generosity and humor. Farewell my Dominican Hero, -Armando Rojas, SoHood.com
