Overview: Inspired by true events, this tense thriller follows Detective Souder (Sam Worthington, Avatar, The Debt) a homicide detective in a small Texan town, and his partner, transplanted New York City cop Detective Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan Starz’ “Magic City,” The Losers, The Watchmen) as they track a sadistic serial killer dumping his victims’ mutilated bodies in a nearby marsh locals call “The Killing Fields.”
Spoiler Alert
Review: Detective Mike Souder (Sam Worthington) and Detective Brian Heigh (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) play two detectives in Texas City, Texas. Jessica Chastain (The Help) plays CSI Det. Pam Stall. She is the ex-wife of Sam Worthington and investigating a disappearance in the “Killing Field.” After a body of female is found in the fields. She requests the assistance of our two Texas City detectives who initially refuse because it is out of their jurisdiction.

Although, Detective Souder meets up with his ex-wife Pam. One scene later, we see Detective Souder is then at the interview room talking to a black man named Levon (Jon Eyez) with possible connection in the murder of a runaway teenage girl that was found dead at a gas station. Levon eventually drops the name Rule (Jason Clarke). I’ll admit the narration and the editing scene sequences at times just had me confused but I did go back and re-watched some parts of the film, so I could get a better understanding of everything.
Anyways, from then on, both Detectives were working different cases. But only Detective Heigh believed that the killer that murdered the teenage girl at the gas station, could be the same killer, that they have been looking for in the killing fields. But not Detective Souder, he was against that theory, and he didn’t want anything to do with the Killing Fields, and he wanted his partner Heigh to mind his business, and only stay on one case and that was to continue on by catching the serial killer of the teenage girl that was found at a gas station.
Meanwhile, a young teenage girl named Little Anne, whom the Detectives usually checked up on, every now and then, mostly cause the teen’s mother is a prostitute, they see men coming and going out the house. One man named Rhino (Stephen Graham, Boardwalk Empire) is close with the teen’s mother and throughout the film you get a sick feeling about him. But everything seem to come together at the end. While Detective Souder was preoccupied on getting Rule, his partner was getting attacked by Rhino and Little Anne’s brother in the Killing Fields.
Overall, the film moves along very slowly and the editing of the flow scene sequences really ‘killed’ this film.
