‘Modern Family’ co-stars Ed O’Neill, Julie Bowen, Ty Burrell, Eric Stonestreet, Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Sofia Vergara stop by Outside the Box to trade parenting styles, secrets to successful shows and why no one sees Sofia as “motherly.”

Among the group of TV parents, Julie wins the honor of most maternal on set. When asked if she is similar to her character she explains, “I’m kind of difficult as a mother. Essentially, I make life a living hell for the people in the house with me. So, yeah…” While conversely, no one can see Sofia as a mom. Even Julie says, “I want to have sex with you.” That’s not motherly!

Ed O’Neill is comfortable as the group’s elder statesman and explains the perks of being the veteran of a large ensemble cast: “The nicest thing about being #1 on the call sheet is that you don’t have to worry about the a-hole whose # 1 on the call sheet … because you’re it.” Being a parent isn’t a thankless job after all.
