Major League Baseball 2K10 Game Review

This year’s Major League Baseball 2K10 game seems to be a complete reboot of shorts, as everything has changed from previous years, batting, fielding and pitching, as well as a new feature called My player. This time around the animations feel more smoother and more ‘real looking” then before.
The control scheme is simple and when executed right feels realistic and the animation looks smooth. When batting all you are require to do is pull back and push forward on the right stick to pull off a power swing, a contact swing only requires a simply push forward on the right stick. Pitching is also similar but requires a bit more movement and accuracy, as you just pick a pitch and perform the two gestures needed to complete the pitch while holding the right stick. Performing the pitch’s two gestures will result in a more powerful and accurate pitch.

Though MLB 2k10 is vastly more improved, the one major aspect that isn’t better is the batting. It just feels like something is off when you step inside the batters box, and take swings. Before you freak out on me, let me just say, that there isn’t anything wrong with batting itself, its possibly more of not getting the right camera angles when batting in this year’s game, and that’s with every camera angle you go with, another thing is that all of the pitches look the same. It’s a minor issue, that one may get use too, but some may like to see more variations in movements and speed that the eye can detect.
My Player mode is a feature that everyone wanted to know if 2k can pull off a feature that MLB the show’s been know for, and I’m hear to tell you they did. You create a player and move up from minor league single A to AA and AAA, all in hopes of being called-up to your favorite major league team.

No matter which position you choose, pitcher or fielder, you’ll get goals before each batter you face, plate appearance or fielding opportunity. Each goal will reward you with skill points, and even if you fail that goal but do something positive you may earn some skill points. Skill points are used to better your player, and each month, you’ll get to train for a specific skill that will earn more points quicker if your training is done successfully.
My Player mode is does a good job of making sure you’ll get skill points for doing other things right, thus making it easier to gain more points. But the drawback is easier for pitches rather than hitters to move up to the majors.
Overall, MLB2k10 is a major step in the right direction, as Xbox 360 can rejoice in knowing that this year’s game is a more solid, fluid and all around fun baseball game. A nice experience playing baseball online or taking your favorite team in franchise mode to the World Series or making it to the big leagues in the new My player mode.
